The 15th National Competition of Transport Science and Technology for Undergraduate Students ("Yoodao · Didi" Cup) Successfully Held in Beijing Jiaotong University

The 15th National Competition ("Yoodao · Didi" Cup) of Transport Science and Technology for Undergraduate Students was successfully wrapped up on November 29, 2020. This competition, which lasted from November 28 to 29, was sponsored by the Teaching Steering Committee of Collegiate Traffic and Transport-Related Programs under the Ministry of Education, and organized by the Traffic and Transportation School of Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). The closing ceremony, moderated by Yan Xuedong, Vice-President of BJTU, was attended by Shi Jun (deputy head of the Department of Personnel and Education of the Ministry of Transport), Wang Jiaqiong (President of BJTU), and 56 experts from universities and industry units.

Shi Jun, as the representative of the sponsor, highly appreciated the meticulous efforts made by Beijing Jiaotong University to organize this event. He stated that this competition has been gaining influence among colleges and universities across the country and has grown into the most influential national academic innovation event of transportation science and technology for undergraduate students. "In the face of the new situation, colleges and universities should do a better job in fostering innovative professionals of transportation, and shoulder the mission of building China into a transportation power. This competition is the right platform to foster students’ craftsmen spirit needed for this end."

Wang Jiaqiong first extended a warm welcome to all the guests present at this event. He said that the changes in the world pattern, the reconstruction of economic order and the rapid development of science and technology have brought both rare opportunities and severe challenges to the development of transportation. "This competition was convened at the right time. It focused on the future development direction of transportation, with joint discussion on "Internet sharing and comprehensive development". It was committed to providing the transportation industry with an exchange platform for incubating innovation, guiding innovation and displaying innovation, and contributing its strength to the construction of a socialist transportation power with Chinese characteristics."

The 15th National Competition of Transport Science and Technology for Undergraduate Students comprised seven categories: "traffic engineering and comprehensive transportation", "navigation technology", "road transportation and engineering", "waterway transportation and engineering", "railway transportation and engineering", "air transportation and engineering", and the theme competition "transportation big data". A total of 656 entrants' scientific and technological works from 115 colleges and universities in China were received and registered for the competition. After qualification examination, form examination and double anonymous reviews, 150 excellent works from 71 universities including Tongji University, Southeast University, Beijing Jiaotong University and Southwest Jiaotong University won their places in the final.


In view of the epidemic situation, Beijing Jiaotong University has made many innovative attempts in hosting this year’s competition. An online-and-offline combined review, for example, was introduced for the first time in the final by relying on the digital online platform, which enabled contestants to stay connected synchronously and make an oral defense through a same-screen roadshow. Professor Liu Zhengjiang, vice chairman of the competition organizing committee and vice president of Dalian Maritime University, announced the results of the competition on behalf of the judge panel. 18 teams won the first prize, respectively from Beijing University of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Dalian Maritime University, Southeast University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hefei University of Technology, Army Engineering University of PLA, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, Zhejiang Normal University and Central South University. The second-prize winners were 43 teams from 30 universities including Chang'an University, and the third-prize winners were 65 teams from 46 universities including Dalian University of Technology.
