The Sixth International Symposium on Railway Operation Research was successfully held


From October 26th to 27th, the Sixth International Symposium on Railway Operation Research was successfully held in Shanxi Hotel in Beijing by the School of Traffic and Transportation, Beijing Jiaotong University. With the theme of “Stride forward to Intelligent Railway Operation”, the symposium invited 17 famous professors from ten different countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, to give keynote speeches on railway operation management and intelligent transportation, and provided a platform for foreign and domestic experts, scholars and students to discuss and exchange ideas on current hot issues of railway system operation.

The organizing committee of this symposium is composed of Lei Nie, Dean of School of Traffic and Transportation of Beijing Jiaotong University, Tao Tang, Director of State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety, Limin Jia, Deputy Director of State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety, Ingo Arne Hansen, Vice President of the International Association of Railway Operations Research (IAROR), Liang Gao, Vice Dean of School of Civil and Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University, Lingyun Meng, Vice Dean from School of Traffic and Transportation of Beijing Jiaotong University, and Xiaopei Cai, Associate Professor from School of Civil and Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University.

The meeting lasted two days and the main events included:

1.From October 26th - 27th, domestic and foreign experts made relevant discussions on the utilization of railway system capacity, efficiency improvement and intelligent operation;

2.On the afternoon of October 27th, guests visited Beijing Rail Transit Command Center.

The discussion was divided into three parts, which were respectively presided over by Shiwei He, Vice Dean of School of Traffic and Transportation of Beijing Jiaotong University, Lingyun Meng Vice Dean of School of Traffic and Transportation of Beijing Jiaotong University, and Baoming Han, professor of Department of Transportation. It's also an honor to invite Liu Jun, Vice President of Beijing Jiaotong University, to attend the conference and give a speech at the opening ceremony.

At 9 a.m. on October 26, Lei Nie addressed the speech in the first place at the symposium on behalf of the organizing committee. Nie introduced the experience of holding the previous symposiums in the past five years and the fruitful results achieved through the symposiums. She also said that the symposium will be definitely carry on in the future to provide a platform for teachers and students to exchange and share practical experience.

Later, Jun Liu made a speech as well. First of all, he expressed his welcome to all the professors, teachers and students who participated in the International Symposium on Railway Operation Management. Then, Liu introduced the plentiful achievements that Beijing Jiaotong University has been made in recent years from the aspects of school history, scientific research platform, international cooperation and professional development. Finally, he pointed out that the International Symposium on Railway Operation Research has far-reaching significance to scientific research and the development of railway industry. He wished this symposium a successful convening.
After Liu's speech, the symposium officially began. In the next day and a half, 17 participants demonstrated their achievements on intelligent train scheduling, delay management, driverless and other hot issues.

After the discussion, under the guidance of Lingyun Meng, the experts visited Beijing Rail Transit Command Center to understand the current situation of China's rail transit development, as well as the future innovation and development trend. So far, the Sixth International Symposium on Railway Operation and Management has been successfully concluded.

At present, the International Symposium on Railway Operation Research has been held for six consecutive years, which provides a broad chance for gathering international high-quality scientific research resources, promoting international frontier cooperation and research, and solving China's railway practical problems. The conference has grown into an academic conference brand with certain international influence in the field of operation management research, and has been widely recognized by scholars at home and abroad. We will review the past and look into the future, innovate constantly, hold more high-quality seminars, and promote the vigorous development of China's railway industry.
