International Cooperative Research Positions Recruitment Notice

Introduction of Project

 

These positions are funded by 2016 China’s National Key Research and Strategic International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Project, which is titled “‘the Belt and Road’ Land Transport International Intermodal Research and Exchange Center” (2016YFE0201700).

The project aims to build a world-class rail transit technology innovation international environment by means of scientific research, international exchanging and talent training. Due to the complex demand for international intermodal transport of “the Belt and Road”, many issues such as unbalanced facility level and diversified technical standards among relevant countries urgently need to be solved. In this context, this project solicits contributions dealing with any aspect of railway transportation resource allocation and utilization in order to improve the comprehensive efficiency of intermodal transportation. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are:

-Cross-border transportation market analysis.

-Transportation capacity allocation and enhancement.

-International intermodal passenger transport organization.

-International intermodal freight transport organization.

-Cross-border transportation information sharing.

-Formulation of standards and specifications for international intermodal transportation.

In addition, the International Railway Transportation Research Center of Silk Road (SilkRail Center) will be jointly established to provide research positions to attract scientific and technological personnel from countries along “the Belt and Road” to carry out cooperative researches, promote long-term exchanges and cooperation in the field of science and technology, and cultivate international transportation talents.

The project is undertaken by Beijing Jiaotong University. The participating parties include China Railway International Co. Ltd, China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co. Ltd., the Erasmus University Rotterdam School of Management and the International Union of Railways.

Positions & Responsibilities

Location: Beijing Jiaotong University (Beijing, China) or China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co. Ltd (Xi’an, China)

Time duration: 6 months

Number of recruits: 15 people

 

Position 1: Research Posts on Product System Design and Organization of International Combined Passenger Railway Transportation

Qualification

-familiar with the passenger transportation organization of the host country

Responsibility

-propose product system and organization plan of the international combined passenger railway transportation, which should be applicable to the actual characteristics of the countries along “the Belt and Road”;

-complete the corresponding research report.

 

Position 2: Research Posts on CHINA RAILWAY Express Return Transport Organization

Qualification

-Should have research foundations in the fields of international freight source organizations, international trade and railway cargo loading and reinforcement.

Responsibility

-put forward proposals to strengthen the CHINA RAILWAY Express return freight source organization or railway cargo loading and strengthening technology of countries along the route with project team members together.

-complete the corresponding research report about preparing a two-way transport organization plan for the typical CHINA RAILWAY Express or Loading reinforcement technique.

 

Position 3: Research Posts on Planning National Railway Network along “the Belt and Road”

Qualification

-familiar with the situation of the host country.

-experience in railway network planning.

-from Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey are preferred.

Responsibility

-participate in the planning and research work of the relevant routes along “the Belt and Road”.

-complete the report and form a preliminary plan.

 

Position 4: Research Posts on Freight Information Transnational Sharing Technology

Qualification

-master the platform, structure and development plan of the relevant national freight information system.

-understand business processes and business rules of railway freight transport in relevant countries.

Responsibility

-conduct research on international freight information exchange and sharing technologies with project team members.

-complete the research report and form relevant interface technology and data standards.

 

Position 5: Research Posts on Comprehensive Allocation of Transportation Resources for International Transportation Channels

Qualification

-familiar with the infrastructure, technical equipment of countries along “the Belt and Road”.

Responsibility

-carry out in-depth comprehensive research on the integrated transportation resources of passenger and freight transport along the route, and improve the efficiency of the transport capacity of the international transport corridor.

-complete the corresponding research report.

 

Position 6: Research Posts of Capacity Guarantee Technology on Ultra-long-distance Transportation Corridor

Qualification

-understand the transportation capacity utilization and enhancement methods, transportation capacity bottlenecks of network in the host country.

Responsibility

-propose measures to improve the capacity of transport corridor between China and Europe or Central Asia with the project team members.

-complete the corresponding research report. 

Funding Policy

 

1. Exemption from office and research report guidance fees, etc.

2. Providing accommodation.

3. Providing comprehensive medical insurance and accident insurance for working in China.

4. Providing accommodation and food costs of 8,000 CNY/month, and research funding of 4,000 CNY/month to whom working in Beijing; Providing accommodation and food costs of 5,000 CNY/month, and research funding of 4,000 CNY/month to whom working in Xi’an.

5. Providing the round-trip airfare to and from China.

6. NOT providing any cost for spouse and children visiting relatives in China.

Qualifications

 

1. Non-Chinese citizens, countries along the Belt and Road route are preferred.

2. Obtained bachelor degree in science or engineering.

3. Government officials engaged in relevant research work, researchers in university or other academic institutions or technicians from railway companies and other transportation enterprises.

4. Language requirements:

Chinese or English level meets at least one of the following

(1) Chinese proficiency meets research requirements. Pass Beijing Jiaotong University’s Chinese video interview and have the ability to use Chinese to write the work report.

(2) English proficiency meets research requirements. Valid certificate of English proficiency must be provided by applicant from non-English speaking country. English proficiency is required to satisfy TOEFL 68 or above, or IELTS 5.5 or above, or pass an English video interview with Beijing Jiaotong University.

5. Healthy physically and mentally, without sickness prohibited by Chinese laws for entering or long-term residence in China. Health certificates or medical examination forms issued by local public hospitals are required. Unfortunately, applicants with severe limb disability, pregnancy and people with the following diseases shall be declined, including severe hypertension, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and other serious chronic diseases, mental illnesses or infectious diseases that may cause major harm to public health; Applicants who are in recovery period after major surgery and breakout period of acute illness will also be refused with our deep regrets.

Application and Admission Process

 

1. Fill in and submit the application form for the research position by e-mail (see the attached template for the application form).

2. Submit the original and photocopy of Graduation Certificate, Degree Certificate, Language Proficiency Certificate, Health Certificate or Medical Examination Report and other supporting materials.

Note: All documents submitted shall be in English or Chinese. If any document is not in English or Chinese, a certified English or Chinese translation should be provided.

The original and photocopies of all the supporting materials shall be submitted to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy for verification.

After verification by the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy, the applicant shall retrieve and send the original and photocopy of the supporting materials to the contact person.

3. The working committee of the project team will select the best candidate according to the information provided by the applicant, and issues the acceptance notice within 2 months after receiving the application. After receiving the admission notice, the admitted personnel should complete the procedures and conduct research in China within the next six months.

4. The admission results will be assessed by the project work committee based on the applicant's comprehensive performance. No explanation will be given regardless of the results.

Introduction of Position Providers

Beijing Jiaotong University is one of the three sources of the university of transportation which was founded in 1896. It is the first institution of higher learning specializing in training management personnel in China and the birthplace of China's modern railway management and telecom education. Beijing Jiaotong University is a multi-disciplinary national key university, and is one of the first batch of universities to award doctoral and master's degrees in China. The school takes information and management as its advantages, and transportation science and technology as its characteristics. Over the past 100 years, Beijing Jiaotong University has become an important base for cultivating talents for social and economic construction, especially for the modernization of rail transit. The university attaches great importance to international student education, and has established a multi-disciplinary international education system including engineering, management, economics, science, culture, law and philosophy, providing Chinese government scholarship, Confucius institute scholarship, Beijing foreign student scholarship and international student scholarship opportunities of Beijing Jiaotong university. 2. China railway first survey and design institute group co. LTD(FSDI for short .fsdi.com.cn)

FSDI is the first large-scale comprehensive railway survey and design units since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. For more than 60 years, it created hundreds of domestic first and world’s greatest, it has devoted the first electrified railway, the first desert railway, the first salt lake railway in our country and the first plateau permafrost railway, the first high - speed railway built in a collapsible soil area, the first high-speed railway across the alpine region in the world. It led the design and construction of more than 30,000 kilometers of railway represented by the western railway network, including more than 5,000 kilometers of high-speed railway. FSDI has won more than 860 national and provincial awards. The qinghai-tibet railway, the qinling tunnel group and hada ke, which were designed by FSDI, won the award of FIDIC (international federation of consulting engineers) "the major project of the global century". The second line project of xi 'an metro has won the FIDIC annual "global outstanding project" award. In recent years, it actively participated in the implementation of the "One Belt And One Road" initiative and undertook the overall design, planning and transportation consulting, comprehensive supervision and research work of many overseas projects.
